Be Watchful

By: Fr. Randy Figuracion, SDB

A five-year old boy walks into his parents’ room to kiss them good night. His dad has just finished reading his bible. He asked: “Dad, what are you reading?” His dad replied: “Son, I’m reading the book of Revelation, the last book of the bible.” “And what’s it about” came another curious question. Dad looks at him and explains: “It’s about God’s final battle against evil!” Excitedly, the boy sat beside his dad and inquired: “And who won?” The father stooped down to his boy’s eye level and informed him: “God won!”

Don Bosco Philippines, South (FIS) Borongan
Eastern Samar. October 12, 2017.Don Bosco Borongan celebrated its 25th year of presence. The theme of the celebration was

“Looking Back With Gratitude, Moving Forward With Hope.“

Despite the challenges encountered by the Salesians in establishing this setting, the fruits of prayers, perseverance, and devotion to Mary Help of Christians are quite evident. Don Bosco Borongan is growing and still going strong as it continues to help and form young people to become GOOD Christians and HONEST citizens.

Looking back, the Salesians established this presence upon the invitation of the Bishop of Borongan, Msgr. Leonardo Y. Medroso, to help the youth ministry of his diocese and the establishment of a vocational education. In 1992, the Salesians started its work in a 8-hectare land formally established as the Don Bosco Youth and Training Center with Fr. Porio SDB as the Rector and Fr. Felix Rotor SDB as the Youth Center Director. The humble beginning for training and youth activities had two classrooms, two shops, a tool room, a few offices, a multipurpose hall, a football field and a basketball court.

The 3-day celebration of the Silver Jubilee was led Fr. Julius Sanchez SDB, the Rector and was attended by former rectors and Salesians who were assigned in DB Borongan, Salesian Cooperators, benefactors, alumni, former and present youth members. In the morning of October 6,the celebration began with the motorcade led the visitors around Borongan City. The Holy Mass in the evening, and was followed by the alumni homecoming. There were games the whole day. At 10 a.m. in the morning of October 8, the Holy Mass, Most Reverent Crispin B. Varquez, D.D., the Bishop of Borongan presided the high mass with the Salesians and priests from the diocese.

Many attended and participated the celebration that brought out the Family spirit in the Salesian community in Borongan. Many of the recipients of Don Bosco in Borongan have started to show their gratitude by slowly back by means of supporting the works of Don Bosco.
